Joseph A. Ruocco

Joseph A. Ruocco, 81, of Corning, NY, died on Wednesday, December 5, 2018.

He was born on March 3, 1937, in Corning, to Sebastian and Antoinette Ruocco.

Joe was a graduate of Northside High School and Alfred State College. From 1958 to 1960, he served in the US Army, stationed in Germany.

He was employed by Ann Page in Horseheads, and later retired from Schweitzer Aircraft.

Joe was a generous, loyal, and kind man. For many decades, he played golf and poker with the same groups of friends. He was a fan of all sports, but especially football and horse racing. Because he loved people, he was for many years a part time bartender at the former Lodge on the Green. Joe's family and friends were fortunate and blessed to have him in their lives.

Joe was a member of St. Vincent's Church, Indian Hills Golf Club, the Corning Elks Club, the American Legion, and the Corning VFW.

Joe is survived by his daughter, Stephanie (James) Spry and his son, David Ruocco; grandchildren Chelsi (Josh) Dieg, Brandon Showalter, and Alexis Spry; two great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Donna Ruocco; former wife, Kathie Long, former mother-in-law, Peggy Knowles, former brothers and sisters-in-law, Lonnie (Shido) Knowles, Valerie (Gary) Howe, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and brothers, Moe and Seri Ruocco.

There will be an informal memorial gathering of friends and family at the Corning VFW on Baker St, Saturday, December 8, 2018 from 12-2 pm in the lounge area. Private burial will be held in the spring.

Memorials in lieu of flowers or cards may be sent in Joe's name to St. Mary's Church, Corning American Legion or VFW.
