Gordon W. Spangenberg Obituary

Gordon "Gordy" Wilfred Spangenberg passed peacefully at home surrounded by his immediate family after a long battle with cancer on January 22, 2026.

Gordy was born in Urbana, NY on November 20th, 1956 to Emma Morse-Spangenberg and Wilfred Llewellyn Spangenberg.  Gordy met the love of his life Laurie Spangenberg and married her on November 26, 1977; they recently celebrated 48 years of a wonderful marriage.

Gordy worked at Polly-O, now BelGioioso Cheese Inc., for approximately 44 years as a Maintenance Manager.  He enjoyed his work and was highly respected and valued.

In his free time, Gordy was an avid hunter.  He spent much of his time in the woods with his son and grandsons.  Gordy was a "Jack of all Trades;" he could fix or build anything. He built his home with his own hands, and this was one of his proudest accomplishments. If he was not in the woods or sitting around a bonfire with his family, you could guarantee he was fixing or building something.

Gordy and Laurie had four children and 10 grandchildren. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. His most adored title was Papa.  Gordy is predeceased by his mother Emma Spangenberg, father Wilfred Spangenberg, brother Vernon Spangenberg, and sister Sue DeCamp.  Gordon is survived by his loving wife Laurie Spangenberg of Bradford, NY; his son Gordon (Veronica) Spangenberg of Savona, NY; his daughters Autumn (Travis) Cover of Spring Grove, PA, Lindsey (Aaron) Spangenberg of Campbell, NY, and Olivia (Rob) Francischelli of Beaver Dams, NY. His 10 amazing grandchildren: Bailea “Boo” Spangenberg, Brianna Cover, Hailee Cover, Brody "Brodster" Spangenberg, Bentley Nichols, Sophie Seidenstricker, River "Riverton" Nichols, Blakely "BK" Spangenberg, Waylon "Willy" Spangenberg, and Brynnlee "Emmy" Spangenberg and his chocolate lab, his best friend Rip.  He also leaves behind many brothers/sisters, sister-in-law Janet Spangenberg, Jane Ullman, and brother-in-law Donny Ullman, nieces, nephews.  Gordon also leaves behind many close friends Todd and Tracy Harrian, Clyde and Nancy Blencowe, his Polly-O family, and many more who meant the world to him.

No immediate services will be provided. A celebration of life will be held by the family later date.
