Gus D. Brooks Jr.

Gus Davis Brooks, Jr. transitioned from this life on the morning of Friday. April 26, 2019 at the age of 82. His full and rich life began on December 5, 1936 in Columbus, Mississippi. “Junior” as his parents, the late Reverend Gus Davis Brooks, Sr. and Mrs. Luella (Fields) Brooks, called him was their first of seven children.

As a youngster, Gus moved with his family to Buffalo, New York where he attended Buffalo City Schools, graduating from the Burgard High School in 1954. Following graduation, Gus enlisted in the Air Force and served his country for several years before being honorably discharged.

Following his military service, Gus returned to Buffalo and where he met and married Mildred Swans in 1962. The two raised a family together while Gus worked for many years at the Ford Motor Company’s Western New York Manufacturing Facility as well as a serial entrepreneur.

A man of faith, Dad Brooks (as Gus was affectionately known later in life) attended Faith Temple Church of God in Christ in Buffalo for many years in his youth and later served faithfully as a member of Grace Tabernacle Church of God in Christ before relocating to Painted Post, NY in 2005 where he became a servant leader at Faith To Face Ministries, serving as a member of Hospitality and Helps Ministry, The Finance Ministry and the Audio-Visual Ministry. Dad continued to grow in his personal walk with the Lord until his passing and encouraged all of us to do the same.

In addition to his parents, Dad Brooks was pre-deceased by his brother, Robert Brooks and his beloved sister Marvin Brooks. He leaves to cherish his memory and carry on his legacy his loving wife Mildred (Painted Post, NY), brothers Thadford Brooks (Buffalo, NY), Charles (Claretta) Brooks (Atlanta, GA) and Carl Brooks (Detroit, MI) and sister Doris Brooks (Buffalo, NY) as well as sons Allen (Diana) Brooks (Columbus, OH) and Michael (Annette) Brooks (Clarksville, TN) and daughters Patricia Swans and Cheryl Maye (Buffalo, NY), Jeanette (Mark) Vaughn (Painted Post, NY) and Tasha Torrence (Atlanta, GA). Dad’s life will also be cherished by the host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends and his Faith To Face Ministries family.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 1, 2019, at Faith to Face Ministries, Corning, NY, from 9:30 am to 10:00 a.m.  Funeral services will follow at 10:00 a.m.  Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Buffalo, NY.

Don’t think of me as gone away, My journey’s just begun. Life holds so many facets, This earth is but one. --- Ellen Brenneman
